New Wrinkle in Security Zone - Jacksonville, Fl - Navy security personnel took 4 individuals into custody on March 6th for failure to leave a security zone when commanded. The 4 POB were fishing at the time under trolling motor when a security vessel pulled alongside. They refused leave leading to their arrest. As of April 1, 2006 they remain in jail as FBI and Homeland security agents interrogated them under the current state of war that exists between us and Iraq. Please stress to people when conducting a VSC that they are not to be within 100 feet of government assets whether the asset is in the water or not. This can include bridges and other structures. It definitely includes any military vessel. Explain to them how to recognize a government asset and what they should do.

Waterway Watch - All VSC's should include a pamphlet from the Waterway Watch program. The VSC workshop is mandatory this year and you should receive the training if you have not yet. Ask the MA officer for Waterway Watch materials to hand out when doing a VSC
